Rachel

After a disagreement with a family member, Rachel was unexpectedly left without a place to live and no support system to rely upon.  She was alone and frightened about the uncertainty of her future.

A social worker referred Rachel to BRC's Lexington Women's Shelter, encouraging her to seek support.

"In the beginning, I was nervous. I didn't really know what to expect and didn't really talk to anyone. But the BRC staff members were so warm and welcoming! I could see they really wanted to help me so I started to open up to them and work with them to find a better life."

In BRC's programs, Rachel was able to access vital healthcare services and work with housing specialists to secure an apartment in an affordable housing community.  There, she found both stability and a newfound community she could call home.

"I love my home. I love to read and cook. Sometimes I turn on music and dance in my living room. My daughter visits on the weekends, and we cook dinner together. It makes me really happy."
