BRC CEO & President Muzzy Rosenblatt and BRC Chief Equity Officer Chance Morrison receive the Most Valuable Provider Award from the NYC Department of Social Services

On June 12, 2025, Molly Wasow Park, Commissioner of the New York City Department of Social Services, presented Bowery Residents’ Committee (BRC) with the Marketplace Most Valuable Provider (MVP) Award for FY 25. This designation highlights BRC’s commitment to supporting local, Minority and Women-owned Enterprise (M/WBE) businesses in NYC.

In 2020, BRC took the equity that has always been a part of its programs and codified it into a core pillar of the strategic plan with the goal of developing a Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Advocacy framework to guide all aspects of the organization. In 2022, BRC hired its first Chief Equity Officer, Chance Morrison. Over the last three years, Chance has built an equity program from the ground up: establishing goals and benchmarks, developing internal and external systems that center equity, and overseeing BRC’s vendor procurement process.

The Marketplace MVP Award acknowledges BRC’s progress towards its equity goals and the hard work that Chance has done in setting BRC up so that the way that the organization spends money is consistent with the values that drive it.

These kinds of programs are literally lifelines, especially when it feels like the system’s not built to help everyone. I’ve donated supplies before and one thing I always recommend: check out the return policy first, in case you end up with extras or sizing issues - super useful tip I found from here https://lowes.pissedconsumer.com/return-policy.html. This just reminds me how impactful consistent support and smart planning can be.
