From the Desk of Muzzy
What distinguishes BRC is not what we do, but how we do it.
BRC pioneered development of the “Safe Haven” program — a safer, more supportive, lower-stress alternative to traditional shelters.
More than 400 people have gone through the doors of this 20-room safe haven since 2008. 200 clients have been successfully placed in permanent housing.
At BRC we are constantly evolving to meet our clients ever-changing needs.
Lack of affordable housing options for low-income individuals is one of New York City's most defining challenges.
Having developed housing, we began to wonder if there was a way to cut out the middleman and turn the City’s need for shelter into a way to also solve the housing crisis.
My goal is to stay engaged. I want to give back to the Lower East Side, which is my community.
What keeps me motivated is seeing individuals accomplish the goals that they set for themselves.
I had heard so many great things about the work that BRC does for the homeless and the formerly homeless that I wanted to be part of it.
